Course Description
The objective of this course is to make participants aware of the importance of legal and contractual issues and due administration on and around construction projects and of the consequences if contractual issues are not taken seriously.
The main contractual terms and conditions of Standard Contract Forms will be introduced and put in relation to real case issues.
Project Administration is considered an essential base for successful project implementation and a due management tool. The main ideas behind Project Administration in the different areas will be introduced with its basic application tools as well as its cross links to contract administration
By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Identify the importance of construction contracts for engineers for successful project completion and management, including potential consequences of lack of knowledge of the contract terms.

Identify contractual basics and contract terms that assist engineers to grasp and deal with construction project contracts, from an engineering standpoint.

Use contractual basics, contract terms, and standard forms of contracts in drafting contracts for engineering projects, based on case studies provided by the professor

Discuss case studies from experience in the course and in the professional field in which expert opinion is required for successful completion of projects from a contractual standpoint

Conduct a SWOT analysis on contracts, and apply standard contract forms on situations of execution conflict

Research and analyze current contract topics, and understand the importance of lifelong research in the field

Understand the importance of contract administration systems in the various engineering fields, based on the knowledge of Fédération Internationale des Ingénieurs Conseils (FIDIC)
